Firstly I would like to wish everyone a healthy, happy and safe 2020. For those who have been affected by bushfires my heart goes out to you and I hope the recovery process is speedy. The bushfires have been horrendous. Aside from donations we all need to support those towns which have been affected to help them get back on their feet.
Looking forward IPA have many events coming up with Gabrielle Stannus, IPA board member taking the stage and presenting on behalf of IPA at the GreenLife Industry National Conference, The Westin, Perth 3-5th March 2020.
The conference theme will be ‘Healthy Plants Healthy People’ in recognition of the important role that green life plays in the physical and mental well-being of all Australians. Beyond the importance of plant health, this industry-run event will also focus on workshopping solutions to the environmental impacts and sustainability of production and showcasing ways the industry can be leaders in the face of a changing climate.
This will be a great opportunity for members to network, listen to informative keynote speakers and more importantly support Gabrielle who will be representing our industry. If any members are going please let me know as I will be attending and we will be sure to catch up.
Another wonderful networking and educational experience is the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show, 25-29th March. Put that date in your diary and come along and meet Gabrielle Stannus and myself as we will be representing IPA, speaking on the main stage on Wednesday 25th March. The main stage schedule will be announced closer to the show and more information will be sent out ASAP.
The most exciting event for 2020 will be a 3 day Study Tour to Singapore 20 July – 22 July. This is a combined event with Australian Institute of Horticulture (AIH) and IPA. The tour details are yet to be confirmed but at this stage we would like to get an idea of the number of participants who might be interested.
This is a great opportunity as it will coincide with the biennial Singapore Garden Festival so you will also have free time to do your own thing. A list of separate popular events and attractions will be supplied. As the numbers will be limited we are asking for ‘Expression of Interest’. Please forward names ASAP to info@interiorplantscape.asn.au
As you can see there is lots to do in the first half of this year. The AGM is coming up on 17th February and once more I have nominate to be your President. I am looking forward to continue working with the incoming board and supporting our members. If you have any suggestions please send them through ASAP so they can be included in IPA’s 2020 strategic plan.
Until next month…
Karen Smith – President
