Mark has many skills in the horticultural industry but his passion is sales and marketing
Mark began his working career on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and when he wasn’t working as an apprentice Plumber & Gasfitter he was chasing waves. A move to the Central Coast, north of Sydney changed that and he ended up in a couple of Business to Business sales jobs which he enjoyed.
Mark began working in the Industry in 1995 as a Salesperson at Green Design and have been with owner Rudy Ursem ever since as their General Manager.
Comments from Mark: ‘Back in the early days, it was so simple, all we had were a few basic plant species and one or two pot models to contend with then. The pots weren’t too fancy and the customers not nearly as demanding, all they wanted was happy, healthy plants in their offices and Interior Designers hated plants in offices and even fought our potential customers who wanted to put plants into their office.
Thanks to all the research at NASA and particularly UTS the doors to Green Star Ratings opened up and our Industry took off and designers liked plants. Now, just getting enough plants can be problematic at times.’
Important Sales and marketing advice from Mark: ‘It’s a much more demanding world out there for interior plantscapers, but the basics are still the same, our Customers want happy, healthy plants in their offices and we’re just the people to do it.’
